After in-service training and under the supervision of the nurse on duty, document on patients’ charts as appropriate. Assist patients with active range motion and perform passive range of motion. Assist with positioning, ambulating, exercising, and transferring patients using proper body mechanics and transfer techniques; adhere to policies and procedures as related to lifting and moving patients. Observe that equipment is functioning properly (e.g., IVs, nasogastric tubes, gastrostomy tubes, and bladder and suprapubic catheters); report faulty or malfunctioning equipment to the nurse. Apply warm and cold packs, simple non-sterile dressings, and elastic stockings; assist with basic respiratory care (i.e., encourage coughing and deep breathing) as directed.
