MAJOR DUTIES The primary purpose of this position is to provide comprehensive, highly specialized nursing care under the direction of professional staff to surgical patients in a large medical facility and the Air Force's only Level I TraumaCenter. 62900 Job Description The individual in this role will work under the direct supervision of the licensed professional nurse, to carry out technical and patient care treatment activities. Responsible for the start up and closing of the water system each day as assigned. Set up and testing of hemodialysis equipment per company policy prior to initiation of patient treatment. Responsible for monitoring of key water quality parameters to ensure safe patient treatment. Start up the Reverse Osmosis water system, completing required water quality monitoring tests, prior to initiation of dialysis. Mix bicarbonate solution per RVM policy and test solution prior to providing it to the dialysis machines. Close unit at end of day and perform necessary disinfection according to facility policy and procedure. Consult the charge nurse when the patient exhibits unusual/abnormal signs and symptoms before, during, and after the dialysis treatment. Under the supervision of the licensed professional nurse, draw up heparin, lidocaine and saline, for use during the patient treatment, in accordance with state regulations. Provide routine monitoring during the dialysis treatment. Follow RVM policies and CDC guidelines for infection control. Clean the dialysis station, (includes chair, machine and ancillary equipment) with the approved facility disinfectant. Collect, prepare, and submit ordered patient lab specimens as directed. Stock supply carts/cabinets with the supplies necessary to complete the day’s treatments. Document all activities related to the patient treatment on the hemodialysis flow sheet. Immediately report any unsafe condition to the charge nurse Assist with proper handling and storage of hazardous materials. Perform all duties in a professional and courteous manner. Participate in emergency evacuation procedures in the event of fire or disaster Maintain confidentiality of all company and patient records. Adhere to HIPPA. Comply with all Company established policies and procedures at all times. Participate in all required meetings including staff, CQI, and educational meetings. Request assistance or advice from supervisor as needed. Performs other duties as requested.
