Assists health unit physician during routine examinations and special procedures. Counsels managers and employees on overseas travel. Contacts Centers for Disease Control and State Department for up-to-date information on required and recommended immunizations for specific countries. Administers appropriate immunizations to employees traveling for government. Recognizes the signs and symptoms of allergic reactions or anaphylactic shock and initiates appropriate treatment. Performs health screenings. Reviews medical history, interprets tests results, educates employees regarding risk factors, recommends appropriate life-style changes, and prepares a summary of all finding for the private physician.  In absence of physician, reviews laboratory test results and notifies employee if needed. In the absence of the Employee Assistance Program Coordinator, responds and provides psychological support to employees experiencing psychiatric emergencies. Psychological support may include contacting outside referral or resources including psychiatric and substance abuse treatment providers. Advises managers and employees regarding workplace health issues, instructing them on safe practices and precautions to follow to avoid Repetitive Stress Injuries (RSI) and other occupational hazards. Conducts management seminars on RSI. Performs research and stays abreast of ergonomic guidelines and/or standards established by OSHA. Makes worksite visits for assessment of specific situations. Communicates information to Safety Representative regarding potential work site health hazards.   Serves as an alternate member of the emergency preparedness team for continuity of operations (COOP). Develops and conducts health awareness initiatives such as the annual Health Fair, and monthly health promotion programs. Researches up-to-date medical topics for in-house seminars for Census Bureau employees. Organizes, publicizes, and promotes seminar, fairs and other events. Develops and prepares timely Broadcast messages and articles for posting.   Conducts in-house training for employees on specific Special Health-related subjects such as Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) or   seminars. Facilitates support groups for employees, such as Autism Support, CancerTouch, and Diabetes Support Group. Periodically, examines medical equipment, including emergency equipment not frequently used, to ensure it is operational and in good working condition; inspects equipment for proper calibration and standardization s recommendation.according to manufacturer Serves as a Preceptor for subordinate or new nurses.
