Airborne Isolation capability is located in 12 of the 20 rooms. The MICU also provides care to the high risk obstetrical patient that requires critical care support. Overflow from other critical care areas does occur with bed availability. Whenever an off-service patient is admitted to the unit, staff notify the appropriate Clinical Nurse Specialist/Nursing Supervisor and utilize appropriate clinical pathways and/or standards of care. Any patient in need of intensive monitoring care may be admitted to 71-ICU. This does not include neurological patients with ICP monitoring, ventriculostomy, or patients needing intra-aortic balloon pump support.
