Evaluates patients to distinguish between psychiatric conditions and symptoms caused by physical illness versus psychological pathology. Obtains complete medical history of assigned patients and follows through on appropriate disposition of patient in conjunction with written protocols and physician consultation as needed. Interprets and integrates findings on the basis of general medical and behavioral health specific knowledge and exercises independent judgment. Determines need for physician consultation based on evaluations and established guidelines. Prescribes medication and writes treatment orders with concurrence and/or countersignature of the supervisory physician. Monitors patients’ compliance with medication plan and its effectiveness; instructs patients in the use of medication; administers psychotropic medications and conducts follow-ups as indicated. Assumes responsibility for patient safety and management during psychological evaluation and treatment program. Continuously assesses, evaluates, and records patient response to program. Plans and presents inservice education for the medical facility and participates with other providers and health educators in the development and implementation of patient education programs.
