The CNS Hospital Rep. will represent and sell company products to residents and staff within teaching hospitals and affiliated institutions throughout the Kansas City Hospital Territory area. VA/military accounts will likely be among accounts that fall within this responsibility. 100% of field time is spent in the institutional market. Departments would include pharmacy, intensive care units, emergency departments, internal medicine, neurology, neurosurgery and others.  This position requires keen product knowledge.  Practical learning, communication skills, persuasiveness, sales ability and motivational fit are desired.   Additionally, CNS representatives are responsible for: Travel throughout territory to call on regular and prospective customers to market UCBs CNS products. This position may involve extensive travel. Conducts a highly technical selling approach with customers using visual aids and samples Sells products in an ethical manner Properly reports calls so company can evaluate field effort and response Cultivates key thought leaders who will act as supporters of our products Conducts numerous group presentations to physicians as well as answers relevant product questions Sets up speaker programs in territory to maximize sales Manages a business development and speaker budget Coordinates formulary approval process at key institutions Properly handles and stores company samples in accordance with PDMA regulations.     BA/BS degree is required. Minimum of 5 years pharmaceutical or medically-related selling experience with 2 years specialty focus. Hospital selling experience is required. Must possess the aptitude to learn highly technical information and to share it with medical professionals through a professionally aggressive, comparative approach. Position Accountabilities and Performance Criteria Percent of Time Essential Functions: The following are essential job accountabilities and performance criteria: Position Accountabilities 1) Performs expert nursing assessments on patients population defined at risk. 10% Criteria: A) Assesses nursing care needs of all patients who are found to be at risk. B) Assesses nursing staff educational needs as they relate to the patient at risk. C) Assesses discharge planning needs and learning needs of the patient and family. D) Assesses need for nursing research activities as they relate to the patient population at risk. 2) Plans for expert nursing care to be delivered to the patient at risk for complications, fall, or have skin breakdown or restraints. (1,2,3,4) 20% Criteria: A) Assists nursing staff in developing a plan of care. B) Ensures that the plan of care is appropriate for patients based on nursing assessment. C) Works with Care Coordinator, Social Work, Dietary and Physical Therapy, etc. to assure a comprehensive post discharge plan of care. D) Plans with Staff Development and Nursing Administration to develop programs to meet staff educational needs. E) Plans nursing research projects to measure appropriateness of nursing interventions and resulting patients outcomes. 3) Ensures implementation of an expert nursing plan of care for inpatients at risk. (1,2,3,4) 20% Criteria: A) Facilitates patient/family teaching as needed by the nursing staff. B) Develop protocols, guidelines and routines that support the delivery of consistent, high level patient care. C) Assists in teaching staff nurses regarding special needs of the patient. Develop skills of both the licensed and unlicensed Nursing Staff. D) Provides expert and direct nursing care to select patients. E) Involves staff nurses in doing research projects appropriate for the patient. F) Facilitates special interventional programs through out all patient care areas for population specific Nursing Care techniques (drains, braces, halos, collars, etc.). 4) Works with Performance Improvement Director to improve performance outcomes of patients at risk. (1,2,3,4) 15% Criteria: A) Evaluates the quality and appropriateness of care being received by at risk patient. B) Evaluates the knowledge base of the nursing staff regarding at risk patient. C) Evaluates trends of at risk patients on a continuous basis. 5) Supports the Hospital philosophy of creating a caring environment and respecting the dignity of others as delineated by Target 100. (1,3,6) 10% Criteria: A) Supports the hospital philosophy, participating as a team member showing courtesy, respect and concern for the needs of others. B) Serves as a consultant to provide expert knowledge at the request of internal health professionals and external requesting agencies. C) Serves as role model for Staff Nurse.QualificationsJob Specifications Minimum Requirement: RN licensure in the State of Missouri Preferred Education: Master's Degree in Medical Surgical Nursing (with research component preferred). Minimum Experience: Two years in Medical Surgical Nursing. Neurosurgical Nursing experience strongly preferred. Working Conditions: Exposed to the risk of bloodborne diseases. Contact with patients under wide variety of circumstances. Exposed to unpleasant element (accidents, injuries, illness). Subject to varying and unpredictable situations.
