POSITION PURPOSE:
To perform Care Coordination activities including prospective and concurrent review as needed. In addition, this position ensures that day-to-day activities of care coordination result in effective and appropriate use of healthcare services.

PRINCIPLE DUTIES:

• Performs medical necessity reviews as needed and serves as resource to other utilization management staff on prior authorization requests that are complex or require extensive research.
• Facilitates appropriate referrals/authorizations for patients.
• Assures contractual turnaround timelines are met on clinical determinations; maintains appropriate documentation of all activities.
• Assures accurate and appropriate communication occurs to providers and members, provides clarification and feedback, as needed, on coverage determinations.
• Assists and supports all related processes, including development of policies and procedures and process improvement efforts as assigned.
• Other duties as assigned.

Education and Training:

• Current Washington State RN license required.
• CPUR preferred

• 5+ years clinical nursing experience.
• 1+ year experience working in a managed care environment.
• Utilization Management and /or case management preferred.
• Experience with Medicare/Medicaid population preferred.

• Candidate has not been sanctioned or excluded from participation in federal or state healthcare programs by a federal or state law enforcement, regulatory, or licensing agency.

• Knowledge of medical necessity principles, including use of clinical criteria
• Computer literacy, including familiarity with Windows and Microsoft Office programs
• Ability to work independently
• Ability to work efficiently, with excellent time management skills
• Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written
• Ability to work well with all types of providers/customers
• Ability to maintain professional demeanor and confidentiality
• Sensitivity to the needs of every individual to be treated with respect and fairness
