Primary Function/General Purpose of Position

To provide nursing care for patients following established standards and practices in accordance with the State's Nurse Practice Act (RN); to provide patient care following hospital standards and professional practice.

Essential Job Functions

  • Assists manager in management and retention of staff through effective recruitment, hiring, evaluation and development of staff.

  • Provide leadership and models professional and leadership behavior to all personnel.

  • Completes assigned tasks in a time frame appropriate for the situation; demonstrates flexibility to fluctuation in workload.

  • Assists with procedures and applies appropriate technique as needed.

  • Ensures compliance with regulatory requirements, core measures, patient safety and quality initiatives to achieve optimal clinical and organizational outcomes. Maintains a safe working environment for all customers and employees.

  • Identify and respond appropriately to ethical issues in patient care and act as a resource to others in addressing ethical dilemmas in patient care. Serve as a resource to others in addressing ethical issues in patient care. Acts as a patient advocate.

  • Initiate collaborative dialogue with physicians and members of the multidisciplinary team to plan, deliver, and evaluate patient care.

  • Perform patient assessments reflecting physical, psychological, socio-cultural, spiritual, cognitive needs and functional abilities through the systematic collection and review of patient- specific data and communicate assessments appropriately.

  • Plan and prioritize care based on the assessment, evaluates patient progress, and revise care to attain expected outcomes. Include patient/family in planning care and evaluating programs and outcomes.

  • Demonstrate clinical competencies in specific area of practice as described in departmental performance standards.

  • Collaborates with nursing staff to ensure competencies.

  • Maintains proper staff levels and assigns call.

  • Counsels and appraises performance of staff.

  • Provide nursing care in a non-judgmental manner that respects patient diversity and acknowledges patient rights. Identify resources to meet unique patient needs.

For BSMH

  • Verifies informed consent and completes pre and post procedure documentation.

  • Completes timeouts as required per policy.

  • Applies principles of protection to minimize exposure to patient, self and others by using desired protocols, utilizing applicable standards.

  • Monitor and performs moderate sedation of patient under physician supervision during procedures.

For RSFH

  • Ensures unit operates within budgetary targets. Assists in the development and management of departmental budgets with consideration to projected future needs.

Licensing/Certification

Currently licensed as a Registered Nurse in the state of practice or holds a current compact/multi-state license as a Registered Nurse in a recognized NCSBN Compact State and is not a permanent resident of state working.

Must have a current American Heart Association BLS for Healthcare Provider Card.

RN: Graduate of an accredited school or college of nursing (required)

Work Experience

At least two years experience as a Registered Nurse (required)

Experience in specified field or a related field (required)

Patient Population

Working Conditions/Physical Requirements

Frequent standing, walking, bending, crouching, stooping. Frequent lifting/moving patients. Intermittent lifting, moving or carrying over 50 lbs. Frequent pushing or pulling over 50 lbs. Frequent use of finger/hand dexterity. Constant reaching with hands/arms. Frequent talking or hearing. Corrected hearing and vision to normal range. Exposure to blood, body fluids or tissue. Possible exposure to infectious materials, communicable diseases and/or other conditions common to a healthcare environment. Intermittent exposure to risk of exposure to blood-borne pathogens. Moderate noise level in work area. Requires work under stressful conditions, deadlines, or irregular hours. May be required to take call and/or work weekends/holidays based on the needs of the department.

Skills

Hard/Tech/Clinical Skills:
