JOB SUMMARY:
This position offers support to our nurses. In addition to the usual LPN roles of giving medicine, observing patients and helping with diagnostic tests. They may teach patients and their families about the disease and its treatment. Because of their specialized knowledge on the care of cancer patients, oncology LPN’s often serve as resources to other staff members. Oncology LPN’s at out-patient facilities may work nights, weekends and holidays if needed. LPN work can be physically taxing, and you risk injury from lifting patients and moving equipment.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Bedside nursing
EKG’s
Preparation and administration of oral and all injectable medication (IVP may be administered from approved list)
Give subcutaneous and intramuscular injections
IV infusions such as;
Hydration
Iron infusions
Antibiotics
Antinausea medication
Accessing ports
Port flushes
Lab draws
Drawing labs from PICC lines and Central lines
Line care (dressing, changing and flushing of PICC & Central lines)
Knowledge of commonly used drugs and their action:
Observation of patients for response and reaction
Aseptic technique:
Sterile dressing technique
Intravenous therapy if approved to do so from a board-approved course:
Start and superimpose intravenous fluids, solutions of electrolytes, nutrients, vitamins, blood and blood products. Superimpose means to connect a container of intravenous fluid.
Blood withdrawal, if approved to do so from a board-approved course or if so stated in the license.

QualificationsEducation/Certification: Graduate of an accredited LPN program. Current LPN licensure in the state of Idaho. Current BLS and ACLS certification and renewal as required or obtain within 90 days of employment. Successful completion of PALS course within 7 months of hire date and renewal as required.
Experience: Clinical oncology and infusion experience experience preferred.
Equipment/Technology: Basic computer knowledge. Able to work in several EMRs.
Language/Communication: : Must have the ability to effectively read, write, and speak English. Must have the ability to speak/educate patients and family members in a manner effective for their learning level.
Mathematical Skills: Ability to add, subtract, multiply and divide in all units of measure using whole numbers. Able to calculate correct doses by applying necessary formulas as needed.
Mental Capabilities: Ability to problem solve and handle stressful situations. Critical thinking skills are necessary.
