Job Summary

We are seeking an experienced Medical Assistant to join our team at the Canton Health Center. This position supports all four departments within the clinic Pediatrics, Adult Pediatrics, Internal Medicine, and OB/GYN and requires a candidate who is comfortable floating between areas based on daily operational needs.

The ideal candidate will have prior experience working with pediatric and/or adult patient populations and be skilled in delivering high-quality, patient-centered care in a fast-paced clinical environment. Responsibilities*

Room patients and perform standard patient intake including vitals

Perform standard medical laboratory/ Point of Care (POC) testing

Administer medications/immunizations, injections as directed

Respond to general patient inquiries regarding treatment and clinic policies and procedures

Coordinate patient care with outside health agencies

Contribute to patient care by assisting providers and other staff as needed with direct patient care activities per clinic routine

Maintain confidentiality of patient information in written, electronic or unwritten form according to clinic and University Policies

Demonstrate knowledge of fire/safety and infection control policies and procedures

Operate and monitor patient care equipment, set up instruments/supplies in exam rooms.

Maintain stock levels and order supplies as needed

Maintain patient files and records

Maintain a safe, clean, and neat work environment in accordance with regulatory agency compliance

May complete general administrative duties as assigned including; Family and Medical Leave Act (FMLA), Disability and Return to work forms, Electronic Medical Record in-basket messages, etc.

Complete other clinical and non-clinical duties as assigned.

Required Qualifications*

High school diploma or GED

Completion of a Medical Assistant program OR current enrollment in, or completion of coursework in a healthcare professional program (e.g., medical school, PA program, nursing program, or related clinical training) OR an equivalent combination of education and experience (1 - 3 years).

Demonstrated knowledge of clinical workflows, patient care, and basic medical terminology

Desired Qualifications*

Graduation from a medical assistant diploma program or an equivalent combination of education and experience (1 - 3 years).

Certification as an Emergency Medical Technician (EMT), Certified Nurse Assistant (CNA) or Medical Assistant (MA)

5 years' Experience in Primary Care

Pediatric Experience

Specialty Care Experience

Experience within an Ambulatory Care Setting

Experience with electronic medical records

Knowledge of University policies and procedures

Experience working in a large, complex healthcare setting

Moderate standing/walking, as well as lifting, positioning, pushing and/or transferring patients

Demonstrate active listening, written, verbal and information technology skills

Individual must exhibit a professional and positive image when interacting with patients, faculty and staff

Individual must also adhere to a high standard of personal and professional conduct; possess excellent customer service, interpersonal and communication skills and demonstrate the ability to interact with a diverse population.

Candidate must be able to work efficiently with a multidisciplinary team, handle multiple responsibilities in a fast-paced environment.

Candidate must demonstrate problem solving skills, proficient computer and keyboarding skills, telephone etiquette along with having a history of excellent attendance and punctuality.

Current BLS certified through American Heart Association (AHA)

Knowledge of basic medical terminology

Modes of Work

Positions that are eligible for hybrid or mobile/remote work mode are at the discretion of the hiring department. Work agreements are reviewed annually at a minimum and are subject to change at any time, and for any reason, throughout the course of employment. Learn more about the work modes .

40 hours per week, Monday - Friday including two evening shifts and a Saturday rotation.
