for Internal Candidates The Medical Assistant Apprenticeship Program is designed for candidates passionate about healthcare and eager to learn in a hands-on environment. Apprentices will receive comprehensive training from experienced preceptors in outpatient clinics in the greater Portland metropolitan area. This intensive six-month earn-to-learn program enables apprentices to earn a full-time wage while training to become a Medical Assistant. In addition to hands-on in-clinic training, apprentices are required to complete unpaid coursework outside of clinic time. Key Program Details
- Program Length: Approximately six months (a minimum of 1,000 clinical training hours).
- Clinic Training Schedule: Monday-Friday 8:00am-4:30pm (40 hours per week in-person).
- Location: Primary Care and Specialty clinics in the Multnomah, Washington, Clackamas, and Yamhill counties.
- Outside Coursework: 10-15 hours per week of unpaid coursework to be completed outside of clinic for the first 20 weeks of the program. This includes live, synchronous sessions on Mondays and Thursdays from 6:00-9:00pm and asynchronous work that can be done at times that are convenient for apprentices.
- Pay & Benefits: This is a full-time, paid, benefited position with a mid-point pay increase.
- Flexibility: Due to the limited number of training clinics, apprentices must be very flexible with their clinic locations and commutes.
- Commitment: Candidates must successfully complete the requirements of the program and work for Providence for a minimum of two years after graduation.
- Start Date: New apprentices are required to start on August 24, 2026.
- Coursework/Training and Enrollment in the Medical Assistant (MA) Apprenticeship Program within 60 days of hire.
- Upon hire: National Provider BLS - American Heart Association
- 6 months of Medical assistant experience.
- 6 months of Healthcare experience in a setting with an Electronic Health Record (EHR).
- 6 months of prior experience providing a high level of customer service in a fast-paced environment
