Responsibilities
We are searching for an energetic, professional and compassionate Assistant Director of Nursing who can provide residents with routine daily nursing care and services in accordance with the resident’s assessment and care plan and as directed by supervisors.
Administrative
Assist the Director of Nursing in planning, developing, organizing, implementing, evaluating and directing the day-to-day functions of the nursing services department in accordance with current rules, regulations and guidelines that govern the facility
Assist in developing and implementing a nursing services organizational structure
Work with the Minimum Data Set/Resident Assessment Instrument (MDS/RAI) Coordinator to schedule, conduct and submit resident assessments
Allocate resources efficiently while ensuring that residents obtain their highest practical physical, mental and psychosocial well-being
Collaborate with medical professionals, consultants and organizations including government and advocacy groups
Coordinate with other resident services to ensure continuity of resident care
Read and interpret long-term care regulations and requirements of participation
Assist in the development of nursing policies and procedures which meet the current standards of nursing practice, comply with state and federal regulations, reflect facility philosophy and support operational objectives
Assist the Director of Nursing in obtaining staffing information that must be posted on a daily basis
Participate in developing, implementing and periodically updating the resident’s written discharge plan
Develop and periodically update nursing services objectives and statements of philosophy
Ensure reference material (i.e., Physicians’ Desk Reference (PDR), regulations, professional standards of practice, etc.) maintained at the nurses’ stations is current Recommend to the Director of Nursing written material that will assist the nursing services department in meeting the day-to-day needs of residents
Monitor Quality Measure Reports
Participate in facility surveys (inspections) made by authorized government agencies as requested by the Administrator or the Director of Nursing
Participate in the development, maintenance and implementation of the facility’s quality assurance and performance improvement (QAPI) program for the nursing services department
Conduct administrative duties such as completing medical forms, reports, evaluations, studies, charting, etc., as necessary
Medical Nursing Care
Identify, manage and treat specific skin disorders and primary and secondary lesions, such as skin abrasions, foot problems such as corns and callouses, decubitus ulcers, bacterial, parasitic and viral skin infections, scaling papular diseases, and benign tumors
Provide assessment and diagnostic services to residents | Complete assessment evaluation using techniques including observation, inspection and palpation
Complete quarterly physical dermatologic examination of the resident and record the results with the assessment
Provide therapeutic services | Confer with the Care Planning Team in the development of the care plan
Provide within established protocols treatment for uncomplicated dermatologic disorders as directed by the attending physician or Medical Director
Ensure that residents with decubitus ulcers receive appropriate prophylaxis and treatment, such as daily inspection, turning and activity, a well-planned diet, and maintaining a clean, dry bed
Give direct physical and psychological nursing care in emergencies, as well as in the presence of illness or disability in order to maintain life, provide comfort, reduce stress, and enhance the resident’s ability to cope
Assist in the admission or discharge of residents
Work with other health agencies and family members in the physical and emotional transitions of admission, care, and discharge of residents
Assist in resident rehabilitation activities | Conduct range of motion, assist in ambulation, provide emotional support | Monitor the results of physical therapy activities
Provide preventive health care services | Make recommendations to the resident concerning nutrition, prevention of common skin disorders, etc.
Provide information to resident and family members of prevention techniques and other ways to maintain or improve the general health and psychosocial status of the resident
QualificationsEducation
Required | Nursing degree (RN or LVN) from an accredited college or university
Experience | Skills | Knowledge
Required
Two (2) years experience as a supervisor in a nursing care facility or other related health care facility
Six (6) months experience in rehabilitative and restorative nursing practices
Current unencumbered active license to practice as a Registered Nurse (RN) or Licensed Vocational Nurse (LVN) in the state of Texas

Be a supportive team member, contribute to and be an example of teamwork and team concept
Ability to make independent decisions when circumstances warrant such action

Possess leadership and supervisory ability and the willingness to work harmoniously with and supervise other personnel
Ability to plan, organize, develop, implement and interpret the programs, goals, objectives, policies, procedures, etc., that are necessary for providing quality care
Patience, tact, a cheerful disposition and enthusiasm as well as the willingness to handle difficult residents
Willing to seek out new methods and principles and be willing to incorporate them into existing nursing practices
Work independently and have flexibility, personal integrity and the ability to work effectively with residents, personnel and support agencies
