As the Assistant Director of Nursing (Healthcare) you would ensure the continuity of quality care to residents by managing and providing oversight to designated managers and assigned health care staff on all units and shifts in accordance with current Federal, State and Local regulations that govern the facility. Serve in an acting capacity in the absence of the Director of Nursing.

Shift Details:

Full-Time, 8:30 a.m. - 5:00 p.m. (to include Nursing Leadership on-call rotation)

MAJOR ACCOUNTABILITIES/ESSENTIAL JOB DUTIES:

  • Interview, hire, supervise, coach, evaluate, discipline and assist employees in setting and meeting performance goals.
  • Develop and monitor performance and responsibilities of assigned staff while monitor staffing patterns
  • Plan, develop, organize, implement, evaluate and direct the Parsons Health Center as well as its programs and activities and ensure compliance with applicable legal, regulatory, accreditation and reimbursement guidelines and standards
  • Conduct and/or delegate the assessment and reassessment of resident needs, including updating care plans and interpreting resident needs.
  • Discuss resident care with respective family members, if appropriate
  • Use and adapt to new technologies, including tools, equipment, methods of application, computerized systems and processes, etc., to impact productivity of department and services; keep job-required technical skills up to date
  • Complete reports on resident incidents and/or injuries and respond to emergency calls from other departments when required
  • Inform the Director of Nursing of nursing activities, needs, issues and unusual events
  • Collaborate in the area of quality assurance, process improvement and infection control to ensure high quality of care is delivered to residents and families
  • Assist with developing the annual Capital and Operating Budgets for the Parsons Health Center. Analyze monthly statistical and budget variance report
  • Work with the Director of Nursing to identify the staffing needs of the Nursing Department necessary to meet the total nursing needs of the residents
  • Champion resident centered care and lead best practice initiatives
  • Continue ongoing communication with resident, responsible parties, physicians and others as appropriate
  • Antibiotic Stewardship duties as assigned
  • Additional duties as assigned

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:

  • Exposure to infection and odors
  • Considerable amount of sitting, bending, standing and walking
  • May be responsible for assembling and dismantling medical equipment
  • Ability to lift 25 pounds without assistance, 26+ with manual or mechanical assistance

REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITY:

  • Strong clinical and assessment skills and knowledge of diseases processes
  • Knowledge of reimbursement regulations and nursing practices and procedures, as well as laws, regulations, and guidelines pertaining to long term care administration
  • Knowledge of quality improvement processes including assessment, root cause analysis, problem solving, and development and implementation of action plans and outcome evaluation
  • Knowledge and experience with Electronic Health Record keeping
  • Understanding of nosocomial infection definitions, chart review, functional understanding of sterilization, disinfections and sanitation with a basic understanding and use of microbiology and epidemiology principles, statistical presentation and outbreak investigation techniques
  • Ability to deal tactfully with staff, residents, family members, visitors, government agencies/personnel and the general public
  • Ability to interpret, communicate and implement policies, procedures, regulations, financial records, reports, etc. to staff, residents, family members, visitors, and government agencies/personnel.
  • Ability to make decisions and choices independently
  • Ability to lead and motivate staff to achieve the desired results
  • Ability to work harmoniously with and supervise staff and develop/maintain good personnel relations and employee morale
  • Ability to make sound decisions based on objective analysis of a situation when under pressure and/or adverse conditions
  • Proficient verbal and written communication skills and ability to speak publicly in front of large or small groups

DESIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITY:

  • Understanding and knowledge of culture change in the long-term care setting

REQUIRED EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:

  • Valid license as a Registered Nurse in the state of Virginia in good standing
  • Eight to ten years nursing experience
  • Five years management experience
  • Acute or geriatric experience

DESIRED EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:

  • Bachelor's degree in nursing
  • Long term care experience
