Job Summary
The Medical Assistant supports physicians and clinical staff by performing a mix of administrative and clinical duties to ensure efficient patient care and smooth daily operations.
Primary Responsibilities
- Greet patients and collect a brief medical history, input information into the EMR system and record vital signs, prepare and update patients' charts/medical records; complete lab/pathology requisitions, arrange examining room instruments and equipment and prepare patients for examinations.
- Assist the physician with certain procedures (pap tests, casting, biopsies, labs, ear irrigation, and dressing changes)
- Label and generate charges for dispensary medications, counts, and bottle meds for providers, record lab tests, and immunizations.
- Collect and prepare laboratory specimens and prepare basic laboratory tests on the premises
- Schedule follow-up appointments and explain surgical in-house procedures to patients as directed by the physician.
- Perform procedures that do not require a physician's visit (glucose/hemoglobin tests, well-baby checkups, initial physical examination work-up, and EKG/TB testing
- Prepares charge slips for payment, assist with vaccine and medical supply orders.
- Purchase and maintain supplies and equipment, keep waiting, and examining rooms neat and clean.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Minimum Qualification and Experience Requirements
- High school diploma or equivalent; completion of a Medical Assistant program preferred.
- Minimum of two years of relevant clinical experience preferred.
Skills
- Strong patient care and communication skills.
- Knowledge of clinical procedures and medical terminology.
- Proficiency with EMR/EHR systems and basic computer skills.
- Ability to take accurate vital signs and perform routine clinical tests.
- Attention to detail and strong organizational skills.

- Understanding of infection control and safety protocols.
- Basic laboratory skills, including specimen collection and handling.
