Job Description


Summary:
The Float/Backup Registered Nurse (RN) provides comprehensive nursing services and backup healthcare coverage within school environments for students with medical needs. The RN is responsible for delivering direct patient care, medication administration, health assessments, emergency response, and coordination with school staff, parents, and healthcare providers to ensure student safety and well-being. This role also supports continuity of care by providing substitute nursing coverage across multiple school locations as needed.

Qualifications:

  • Active and unrestricted Georgia Registered Nurse (RN) License.
  • Current CPR/BLS Certification.
  • Successful completion of GCIC/NCIC criminal background screening.
  • Ability to comply with FERPA, HIPAA, IDEA, CCSD policies, and Georgia nursing regulations.
  • Strong clinical assessment, communication, and documentation skills.
  • Ability to work onsite in school environments and travel between school locations if required.
  • Experience in school nursing, pediatrics, or special education is preferred.
  • Ability to maintain accurate nursing documentation and confidential medical records.

Responsibilities:

  • Provide one-to-one nursing services for students with medical needs.
  • Conduct daily health assessments and monitor student health conditions.
  • Administer medications and prescribed medical treatments.
  • Implement physician orders and nursing care procedures.
  • Develop, implement, and update healthcare plans and nursing care plans.
  • Coordinate with teachers, administrators, therapists, special education staff, and healthcare providers regarding student care.
  • Communicate with parents/guardians regarding student health status and nursing services.
  • Provide nursing supervision and medical support during student transportation when required.
  • Respond to medical emergencies and provide immediate nursing interventions.
  • Maintain accurate documentation of treatments, assessments, services, and student progress.
  • Ensure confidentiality and maintenance of student medical records.
  • Obtain updated physician orders and revise care plans as necessary.
  • Complete time tracking and service reporting requirements.
  • Provide backup nursing coverage and ensure continuity of services during staff absences.
  • Support nurse orientation, mentoring, competency evaluations, and professional development activities.
  • Ensure compliance with FERPA, HIPAA, IDEA, CCSD policies, and state nursing regulations.
