The Avenidas Rose Kleiner Center provides adult day health care services to frail and dependent older adults and support for family caregivers.
Position Overview
Provide basic patient care, supervision, and assistance with activities of daily living and engagement in the program to support participants while at the Center. This is a 26 hour part-time, hourly, non-exempt, benefited position. Center hours are M-F, 8:45am-2:30pm.
Essential Job Functions
Provide participants with personal care assistance, such as toileting, personal hygiene, and grooming that ensures the participant is clean, dry, and comfortable.
Follow toileting schedule and take measures to prevent falls, skin tears & skin breakdown.
Document and chart as required.
Observe participants for any physical or mental changes and changes in behavior. Report any observed changes to appropriate Interdisciplinary Team member.
Assist participants to ambulate following level of assist required as determined by PT.
Provide dining support and supervision.
Maintain positive working relationship with all staff members, volunteers, families, and participants.
Spend work time, as required, learning about working with the elderly and the medical conditions of the participants.
Understand the elements of a therapeutic environment and work with the staff to encourage maximum functioning and benefit to the participants.
Understand and be able to demonstrate proper body mechanics and universal precautions.
Attend all staff meetings, trainings and in-services.
Comply with health and safety standards including licensing, fire and disaster preparedness regulations and agency policies.
Conform to all applicable policies of the Center
Secondary Job Functions
Engage the participants in classes, activities, and social time as needed
Perform as a spotter for activities and charting, as needed
Assist with meal and coffee service, as needed
Move tables, chairs, and partition wall as needed.
Perform other related duties as assigned by Activity Manager.
Qualifications
5 years experience working with seniors and ADLs
Must be CPR certified or willing to take certification class (provided by employer).
Ability to work with seniors in a demonstrated friendly and caring manner.
Ability to provide assistance in a culturally sensitive and respectful manner.
Knowledge of older adult issues and experience working in a multicultural setting.
Skill in communicating with participants including individuals with cognitive impairment.
Desire to learn more about caring for population served.
Initiative, common sense, friendly nature, and ability to work as a member of the team.
This role requires substantive interaction with participants and a high level of tact and judgment in caring for higher-care participants.
Physical Demands and Work Environment
Stand for 95% of the workday while performing all of the above responsibilities.
Ability to lift, transfer, push/pull, maneuver and reposition 35 lbs.
Ability to reach, bend, and walk.
Frequent stand/walk, sit, use a computer; use a telephone, grasp lightly/fine manipulation.
Frequently reach/work above shoulders, twist/bend/stoop/squat, grasp forcefully, lift/carry/push/pull objects that weigh up to 10 pounds, write by hand, sort/file paperwork.
Regularly required to push wheelchairs
TB and health clearance required.
Hours and Compensation
This is a part-time nonexempt (M-F) 26 hours per week position. Benefits include competitive salary; medical, dental, vision, 403B grant offered; paid vacation, sick leave, holidays and more. Salary range is $23.74 - $25.00 per hour.
