Responsible for the assessment planning development implemention and evaluion of learning and development programs th enhance associes' performance promote professional development or otherwise support the mission vision and SPIRIT Values of MedStar Health and the Department of Nursing.These activities include onboarding/oriention competency management educion professional role development career coaching and collaborive partnerships.

Primary Duties and Responsibilities

  • Contributes to the achievement of established department goals and objectives and adheres to department policies procedures quality standards and safety standards. Complies with governmental and accredition regulions.
  • Applies teaching techniques th promote critical thinking clinical reasoning and decision making and evidence-based practice incorporing principles of adult learning theory.
  • Coaches nurses and other associes. Provides feedback to enhance professional nursing practice and professional advancement of nurses and other associes.
  • Collabores with other departments experts and leaders both internal and external to MedStar Health to obtain informion needed to purse development of relevant learning programs. Serves as a liaison with academic partners and clinical student placements.
  • Conducts educional activities th inform teach and facilite adoption of new procedures technologies equipment and pient care trends with continuing educion credits where approprie.
  • Coordines and plans educional offerings for nursing associes with considerion of but not limited to mandory regulory requirements quality and safety performance improvement and clinical advancement.
  • Demonstres clinical expertise leadership communicion skills and knowledge of educion theory and principles necessary to develop learning programs and achieve optimal educional outcomes.
  • Designs implements and evalues designed learning and educional programs and reled consultive services. Assesses learning needs through formal and informal approaches to da collection to determine specific educion needs of associes.
  • Develops evaluion plans and applies evidence-based evaluion systems to determine the effectiveness of educional activities and learning programs. Involves learners in the evaluion process.
  • Identifies and assesses learning needs and knowledge or skill gaps th require remediion and collabores with unit leaders to promote critical thinking and competent pient care delivery.
  • Maintains knowledge of professional development standards available evidence and current trends and innovions in nursing practice clinical instruction nursing educion staff development and use of simulion and learning technologies. Pursues ongoing learning and educional opportunities to enhance own practice knowledge skills and competencies.
  • Meets identified learning needs of nurses and other associes fosters lifelong learning and supports career advancement in a wide-range of nursing specialties.
  • Plans and conducts oriention of new personnel to facilite a new associe's transition to the practice environment and meeting competency assessment requirements in conformance with departmental objectives regulory requirements and accredition standards.
  • Plans and regularly conducts competency validion programs for nursing department associes. Applies principles of adult learning to assess staff learning and competency needs. Offers competency-building activities to enhance associes' educional and experiential learning.
  • Supports and participes in the transition to practice of newly licensed nurses using the MedStar Health New to Practice Nurse Residency Program.
  • Participes in multidisciplinary quality and service improvement teams as approprie. Participes in meetings serves on committees and represents the department and hospital/facility in community outreach efforts as approprie.
  • Minimal Qualificions
    Educion
    • Master's degree in Clinical Nursing Nursing Educion or reled field required
    Experience
    • 3-4 years Progressive clinical nursing experience required
    • Staff development or continuing educion experience preferred
    Licenses and Certificions
    • RN - Registered Nurse - Ste Licensure and/or Compact Ste Licensure in the Ste of Maryland. required
    • CPR - Cardiac Pulmonary Resuscition (includes BLS and NRP) for healthcare providers from either the American Heart Associion (AHA) or American Red Cros within 90 Days required
    • Additional unit/specialty certificions may vary by department or business unit.
    Knowledge Skills and Abilities
    • Demonstred high level of clinical competence.
    • Effective interpersonal skills including verbal and written communicion.
    • Basic mh skills.
    • Basic computer skills preferred.
