Job Description

This role provides hands-on medical and administrative support in a clinic setting, including patient follow-ups, data entry, and coordination of care. The medical assistant contributes to a positive patient experience by managing inbound calls, scheduling appointments, ordering labs, and documenting accurately in the electronic medical record system.

Responsibilities

  • Perform patient follow-ups to ensure continuity of care and address ongoing needs.
  • Update patient records accurately through data entry, including visit notes, lab orders, and results.
  • Answer inbound phone calls in a professional and courteous manner, addressing patient questions and routing calls appropriately.
  • Schedule and manage patient appointments and follow-up visits in the electronic medical record system.
  • Order laboratory tests as directed and ensure orders are entered correctly into the system.
  • Relay lab results to patients and providers in a timely and accurate manner, following clinic protocols.
  • Provide clinical support to providers and staff, assisting with routine medical assistant duties as needed.
  • Utilize the Athena EMR system to document encounters, update charts, and manage patient information.
  • Support front desk operations, including patient check-in, check-out, and insurance-related tasks as needed.
  • Maintain a high level of customer service by communicating clearly, showing empathy, and supporting patients throughout their visit.
  • Apply medical terminology and knowledge of healthcare processes to ensure accurate documentation and patient communication.
  • Collaborate with clinical and administrative team members to support efficient clinic operations.
Essential Skills
  • At least 1 year of experience in medical assisting or a closely related clinical support role.
  • Medical assisting diploma or certification, or 1+ years of medical assistant experience preferred.
  • High school diploma.
  • Experience working in a medical or healthcare environment.
  • Proficiency with electronic medical records, specifically Athena EMR.
  • Knowledge of medical terminology and healthcare documentation standards.
  • Experience with medical records management and electronic health records.
  • Ability to schedule appointments and manage follow-ups accurately.
  • Skill in ordering labs and documenting lab orders and results.
  • Experience answering and managing inbound phone calls in a clinical or healthcare setting.
  • Strong patient care and clinical support skills.
  • Customer service skills with a focus on patient satisfaction.
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) knowledge or experience.
  • Familiarity with insurance-related processes in a medical setting.
Additional Skills & Qualifications
  • Registered Medical Assistant (RMA) or similar credential is a plus.
  • Experience working at a clinic front desk, including check-in and check-out.
  • Background in healthcare customer service and patient-facing roles.
  • Comfort working with electronic health record systems and other clinical software.
  • Strong communication skills and ability to work collaboratively with a multidisciplinary team.
  • Attention to detail and accuracy in data entry and documentation.
  • Ability to manage multiple tasks in a fast-paced clinical environment.
Work Environment

This position is based onsite at a clinic and operates in a patient-facing, fast-paced healthcare environment. The schedule is Monday through Friday, 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. The role involves extensive use of electronic medical records, particularly Athena EMR, and regular interaction with patients, providers, and administrative staff. This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Orlando, FL.

Pay and Benefits

The pay range for this position is $18.00 - $20.00/hr.
