We are seeking a candidate with medical/dental assisting experience or an interest in entering the healthcare field. At our Santa Barbara dental office, we screen and treat patients with sleep disordered breathing conditions such as obstructive sleep apnea, a potentially life-threatening condition. We treat patients obstructive sleep apnea with Oral Appliance Therapy, an alternative to CPAP. This is a medical assistant position dealing with Dr. Wipfs specialty in sleep medicine (although there will be opportunity to help out on the dental side).
We work closely with physicians and the medical community to help these patients achieve a better quality of life through a better night's sleep. This is a great opportunity to gain leadership experience in the medical/dental field, the position involves a broad range of responsibilities that will better prepare a student going into medicine.
Primary job duties include:
Communicating with new and existing patients, including scheduling appointments and treatment follow-up
Preparing rooms, cleaning and setting up dental instruments, taking intra-oral digital scans and impressions, taking notes during oral exams, and educating patients on oral appliance therapy
taking x-rays and CT scans
3D printing models
ordering oral appliances and supplies from various manufacturers
writing clinical notes, general charting, and administrative duties
downloading home sleep tests and overnight pulse oximetry studies
sending referrals, managing authorizations, and communicating with other dental and medical practices and the VA
other related duties
Qualifications:
high-level organizational, time-management, and problem-solving skills
the ability to deliver professional patient care within a fast-paced environment
excellent communication skills (verbal and written)
excellent computer skills
prior experience in a medical or dental office preferred
