As an LPN/Cord Blood Coordinator supporting Fairview Hospital's Level III Birthing Center, you will assist in providing exceptional care to patients in labor and delivery, as well as those undergoing elevated-risk antepartum and postpartum treatments. In this role, you will obtain informed consent from mothers donating cord blood, collect maternal peripheral blood samples for infectious disease testing, obtain maternal medical histories and infant/delivery data and accurately label and prepare cord blood units for transport to the Cleveland Cord Blood Center. You will also answer questions regarding public cord blood donation, assist obstetric physicians during cord blood collection procedures and ensure all collection materials and documentation are completed accurately.

This position offers the opportunity to support groundbreaking therapies and research initiatives while enhancing your nursing skills through hands-on experience and educational resources available throughout the Cleveland Clinic system.

A caregiver in this role works nights from 6:00 p.m. - 6:30 a.m. with rotating weekend requirements.

A caregiver who excels in this role will:

  • Collect, document and report patient data and observations.

  • Implement care plans as directed by an RN and contribute to care plan revisions.

  • Work as a scrub nurse in our OR.

  • Help with admissions, breaks and lunches and in the recovery room.

  • Administer medications and/or treatments authorized by a provider and observe patients for adverse reactions.

  • Perform routine laboratory tests.

  • Educate patients and family members.

Minimum qualifications for the ideal future caregiver include:

  • Graduate of an accredited Practical or Vocational Nursing Program

  • Current Ohio licensure as a Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN)

  • Basic Life Support (BLS) Certification through the American Heart Association (AHA) or American Red Cross

Preferred qualifications for the ideal future caregiver include:

  • One year of hospital/patient care experience

  • OB background

  • Hospital experience in a procedural area

Physical Requirements:

  • Requires full body motion to move and lift patients, manual finger dexterity with good eye-hand coordination.

  • Involves extensive standing and walking.

  • Requires corrected vision and hearing to normal range.

  • Medium Work - Exerting 20 to 50 pounds of force occasionally, and/or 10 to 25 pounds of force frequently, and/or greater than negligible up to 10 pounds of force constantly to move objects.

  • Physical Demand requirements are in excess of those for Light Work.

Personal Protective Equipment:

  • Follows standard precautions using personal protective equipment as required.

Pay Range

Minimum hourly: $23.25

Maximum hourly: $33.50
