Ridge View Community School Nurse--PreK-8

Position Summary

Ridge View Community School is seeking a compassionate, knowledgeable, and student-centered School Nurse to support the health, safety, and well-being of students in grades PreK through 8. The successful candidate will provide direct nursing services, promote healthy school environments, collaborate with families and staff, and ensure that students are healthy, safe, and ready to learn each day. School nurses typically oversee student health care needs, medication administration, health plans, screenings, and emergency response.

Essential Responsibilities
  • Provide nursing assessment, first aid, and care for students and staff.
  • Administer medications and treatments in accordance with physician orders and district policies.
  • Develop and maintain Individual Health Plans (IHPs), Emergency Action Plans (EAPs), and health accommodations for students with medical needs.
  • Monitor and support students with chronic health conditions such as asthma, diabetes, allergies, and seizure disorders.
  • Conduct required health screenings, including vision and hearing screenings.
  • Maintain accurate and confidential student health records.
  • Monitor immunization compliance and communicate requirements to families.
  • Respond appropriately to medical emergencies and coordinate emergency care when necessary.
  • Collaborate with families, healthcare providers, teachers, counselors, and administrators to support student health and success.
  • Provide wellness promotion for students and staff.
  • Assist with communicable disease prevention, health reporting, and compliance with state and federal regulations.
Qualifications
  • Current Registered Nurse (RN) license in the State of Maine (or eligibility for licensure).
  • Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) is required.
  • Completed a minimum of three semester hours in diversity-centered content related to todays classroom (e.g., culturally responsive teaching, multicultural education, intercultural education, second language acquisition or world language teaching methods).
  • Current certification in CPR and First Aid.
  • School nursing experience preferred but not required.
  • Knowledge of child development, pediatric health care, and school health regulations.
  • Strong organizational, communication, and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to work independently, prioritize responsibilities, and respond calmly in emergency situations.
