Overview of the Malden Public Schools:

The Malden Public Schools (MPS) is a richly diverse school district located within the Greater Boston area and accessible by the MBTA orange line train. Malden’s student body comprises approximately 6,500 students who represent 59 different countries and speak 67 different languages. We have 1 early learning center, 5 K-8 schools, and 1 high school. Responsibilities include but are not limited to:
? Interviews and verifies qualifications of all permanent and per diem nursing applicants.
? Hires and orients qualified nursing staff.
? Assigns, supervises and evaluates all nursing staff.
? Participates in the school health wellness committee(s).
? Serves as a member of the District Leadership team.
? Provides leadership in the development of program goals and objectives.
? Reviews changing trends in health needs to determine the need for revision of goals and objectives.
? Coordinates the collection of statistical information to meet reporting requirements of the school system, and state agencies.
? Collaborates with school administrators, teachers, and support staff to promote a physically and psychologically healthy school environment.
? Represents the School’s Nursing Services at community meetings and coalitions relating to health and nursing services.
? Collaborates with School Physicians to coordinate Nursing services in school and community.
? Coordinates Professional Development for nursing staff.
? Coordinates and collaborates with administration on annual budget related to nursing items.
? Collaborates with local schools of nursing to provide student nurses with clinical (internships)
experience in community health.

? Provides support to nursing staff in developing and implementing policy and procedures such as but not limited to:
1. Documentation systems
2. Immunization and /or physical examinations
3. Medication Administration
4. Emergency Planning
5. Communicable disease prevention and infection control
6. Mandatory screening
? Liaison to the Welcome Center; oversees the medical clearance of all students for initial enrollment into the Malden Public Schools (required immunizations, medical screenings, health information).
? Coordinates and consults on medically challenging students.
? Orders medical supplies and delivers them.
? Coordinates AED program.
? Verifies sure all medical equipment is calibrated, maintained, and updated.
? Coordinates staffing-obtaining substitutes when needed, covering at a school if no substitute is available.
? Works with administration to provide Nurses for summer programs.
? Provides staff with updates from DPH, changes in rules and regulations.
? Coordinates and makes sure all staff maintain licensure and certifications.
? Works with DPH and is coordinator for Waiver Program for administration of Medication for unlicensed personnel for field trips and epi-pens for allergies.
? Works closely with Malden Board of Health for immunizations and TB, as well as with community health providers.

? Responsible for other general duties as indicated by the Superintendent of Schools or her/his designee, and policies of the Malden School Committee

Qualifications:
? Ability to provide leadership in health services and related fields.
? Able to communicate effectively, verbally and in writing.
? Ability to give oral and written instructions.
? Ability to plan, administer, direct, and coordinate programs and functions of all the School Nurses and the program.
? Ability to make sound decisions and recommendations of matters of major policy, complex administrative and technical problems.

? Licensed by DESE as a Director
? Licensed by DESE as a School Nurse
? Master’s degree in Nursing or related field.
? Valid Nursing license to practice in Massachusetts.
? Minimum 3 years experience in School Nursing.
? Maintain certification in CPR (Cardio-Pulmonary Resuscitation).
? Strong computer skills
