We are seeking a dynamic Magnet Program Coordinator and Professional Development Specialist to lead and support nursing excellence through coordination of the Magnet Recognition Program and advancement of professional development initiatives. This role partners with nursing leadership and interdisciplinary teams to drive evidence based practice, shared governance, and a culture of continuous improvement aligned with Magnet standards. The coordinator will oversee Magnet related data, documentation, and outcomes, while also designing and implementing educational programs that enhance clinical competency, leadership development, and staff engagement. This position plays a key role in elevating the patient experience by supporting a highly skilled, empowered nursing workforce committed to quality, innovation, and excellence in care delivery.

General Summary

In the role of Magnet Program Coordinator: Provides oversight of the Magnet Program and implementation of creative systems, processes, shared decision making and clinical practices that improve patient care delivery. Ensures the Magnet framework and essential domains are enculturated and hardwired into the organization through coordination, education and consultation with Leadership. Coordinates all aspects of the ANCC Magnet application, annual reports and re-designation process. In the role of Professional Development Specialist: Facilitates learning opportunities for a variety of clinical programs and target audiences. Leads and maintains clinical/nursing programs and courses. Continually assesses audience learning needs and evaluates impact of learning outcomes.

RESPONSIBILITIES

Duties and Responsibilities

Essential Functions:

  • Coordinates efforts to achieve and maintain Magnet Hospital designation.
  • Conducts gap analysis for evidence of the Magnet Model components and works closely with leadership to formulate plans to close the gaps in performance.
  • Maintains a spirit of inquiry using nursing evidence-based practice findings and research methodologies to improve the care delivered to patients.
  • Leads education for staff and Magnet Champions on key initiatives and Magnet principles, standards and expectations.
  • Fosters innovation and excellence in nursing. Ensures the Magnet framework is hardwired into the organization through coordination, education and consultation with clinical team members and Leadership.
  • Fosters an environment of shared governance and shared decision making. Ensures shared decision-making structure is in place at the hospital and unit level. Participates on system level shared decision-making councils.
  • Acts as a resource and advisor for the shared decision-making councils, coordinating an assessment of Magnet readiness gap analysis, submitting application for Magnet Recognition, verifying that all requirements are met and designing and implementing processes to maintain and sustain Magnet designation.
  • Manages Magnet performance requirements on an ongoing basis and for re-application.
  • Facilitates and oversees the preparation of documentation, policies, research and informal sessions relative to maintaining Magnet status.
  • Oversees collection of key nursing sensitive indicators and outcomes and develops all reports and demographics for submission to the ANCC Magnet Office.
  • Maintains expert knowledge of current Magnet requirements and ensures organizational awareness and success.
  • Functions as primary liaison with Magnet Program Office.
  • Engages administration, physicians, staff and all interprofessional partners in Magnet site visit activities and preparedness.
  • Coordinates the education process (clinical and non-clinical) for a defined target audience of staff including assessing educational needs, planning, developing and delivering appropriate education and training, and evaluating education outcomes. May act as subject matter expert for the development of new learning solutions for targeted audiences.
  • Functions as an educational consultant for entity-wide initiatives requiring education and training.
  • Contributes to the enhancement of organizational, team and individual performance through the appropriate and measurable evaluation of education interventions.
  • Facilitates the planning, development, delivery and evaluation of clinical education programs.
  • Provides consultation services regarding education/training.
  • Contributes to the development and maintenance of competencies for clinical positions.
  • Attends appropriate external education programs to evaluate courses for presentation.

QUALIFICATIONS

Qualifications

Minimum Education:

  • Bachelors Degree Required
  • Masters Degree Preferred

Work Experience:

  • 4 years' experience in nursing with 3 years nursing leadership, and/or project or program management experience
  • Experience working in a Magnet Recognized Hospital Required

Licenses:

  • Licensed Registered Nurse Upon Hire Required or
  • Registered Nurse Multi State License Upon Hire Required

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Assignment may require knowledge of computer software and operations
