Category Nursing - RN-Operating Room Job Type Contract Step into a dynamic surgical nursing setting providing comprehensive care for patients undergoing Cardiothoracic and, as needed, a range of general surgeries. This contract position offers an engaged, collaborative environment focused on supporting excellence in patient care and professional growth. Schedule/Hours: 4 ten-hour shifts per week (Monday-Friday), 7:00am-5:30pm Call requirement: 3-4 shifts per week (call extends from end of worked shift until next scheduled shift) Up to every other weekend (call begins Friday after worked shift and ends Monday morning at 6am) Preferred Qualifications: Current RN license in the State of New York (unrestricted) Previous Operating Room experience required; Cardiothoracic OR experience strongly preferred BLS (Basic Life Support) certification required Strong knowledge of perioperative nursing, particularly in cardiac/thoracic and general surgical procedures (robotic, GYN, GU, ENT, ortho) Ability to respond effectively and compassionately in high-stress situations Strong communication, organizational, and critical thinking skills Key Responsibilities: Deliver patient-centered, evidence-based care, managing all perioperative phases for assigned surgical patients Collaborate with physicians and surgical teams to ensure optimal outcomes and patient safety Assess, plan, implement, and evaluate individualized nursing care, adapting interventions as needed Provide patient and family education on procedures, post-op care, and health promotion Safely administer medications, observing legal and institutional standards Participate in departmental initiatives, quality improvements, and shared governance activities Support onboarding and ongoing education for new staff and students Act as Charge Nurse or Shift Coordinator when needed Advance your clinical expertise and play a key role in delivering exceptional surgical care.
