A Certified Medical Assistant (CMA) plays a critical role in the nursing industry by providing both clinical and administrative assistance to healthcare professionals. To become a CMA, one must have graduated from an accredited medical assisting program, passed the CMA Certification Examination, and maintain their certification with continuing education. Important skills for a CMA include strong communication and interpersonal skills, attention to detail, technical skills, and a good understanding of medical terminology. Prior to becoming a CMA, an individual might have roles such as a medical secretary, a nursing assistant, or a phlebotomist; these positions provide valuable experience in both the administrative and clinical aspects of healthcare.
